Farewell 2006!....

So as well are in the final few hours of 2006, I just planned to recollect some fond as well some nasty memories of 2006... Well, the year 2006 has been a mixed year.. mix of fun, disappointments, jubiliation, sadness and wat not!
Let me start wid each of the months.. January.. it was the month when we were conducting our Maduraidotnet Community Launch of VS.NET 2005,SQL Server 2005.. It was a big success owing to the help from all corners dat we received.. It also marked my first step in organizing a big event dat received great response from the student and professional community.Nothing more memorable in January.February just went on fine.. We had our Industrial Visit to Trivandrum during dat time.. but unfortunately I was ill and could not enjoy as much as I wanted to.During this time, I also worked for the web-portal of Teletec and that was fun.March just went in a jiffy.April.. this month holds some special personal moments for me.May.. we had our semester exams during this time and at the end of it.. our lovely placement prep.. we gals had great jolly time in the hostel in the name of studying 4 placement watching movies, conferencing, n wat not!.. June was ofcourse our placement time.. and I got my first offer from TCS.And after dat, helping my frenz and room-mates wid their placements and the thrill in hearing their names being called out and informing them was something memorable.. July.. this is my month.. coz i am a July babe! :)I got my second offer from Honeywell just a day before my bday :)
August and September were little hard months.. and I had to sweat it out.. experience a mixed array of emotions.. October was another great month when we got rewards for our work.. November.. again. we had our semester.. the final odd semester exam.. and it went on fine.. wid me writing a couple of exams wid "Madras eye" dat had caught like fire in the hostel! :) December.. the last of all months.. has been a good and enjoyable month.. went on fast and good. 2006 has been a great year for me with lots of beautiful moments etched in my mind.. So, gotto c wats in store for 2007!

Sudha Murthy-A women of character.

A few days back I got a forward about Sudha Murthy-the wife of Mr.NarayanaMurthy founder of Infosys. Here is the link that reproduces the exact text in the forward. Its Sudha Murthy narrating her association with Tata.. I was really touched on reading the article and my respect for the great man JRD Tata increased. Two things in that article inspired me.One was a women fighting for her justice in a society dominated by men a few decades ago.. though things have changed a lot over the years.Second was the humility and uncomprimising commitment to justice by JRD Tata.On reading the article I wanted to read more about this iron-willed and strong lady who wanted her justice.I googled for Sudha Murthy and this was the first link that showed up.It showed her profile.. and she was one person who was a topper throughout her schooling and college life. The second link that showed up was this.In this Sudha narrates her story about how Infosys was born and the sacrifices which she had to make to enable Mr.Narayanamurthy carry forward his dream and ,and not to forget the Infosys Foundation which she manages.Limited words it might be.. but much has been conveyed about the personality of this great woman.Kudos to her!

I enjoy..

Here are few things that I just enjoy..

1.Taking a long walk by the beach in the morning and evening getting a feel of fresh air and finding a mixture of ppl of all ages to keep me company..
2.Roaming around my locality with frendz recollecting lovely memories.
3.Getting up early in the morning, reading The Hindu,Metro Plus etc. sipping mom's tea and listening to the chirping of birds.
4.Spending lovely Sundays at home watching Ragamalika ,reading Adyar Times,The Week,etc..
5.Going out with mom in the evening in her two-wheeler and getting a feel of the city.
6.Spending a couple of hours in my terrace.. watching the sun go down in the evening... witnessing a lovely dash of colours in the sky.. thanking God for his lovely art.. My terrace holds special memories for me and much of my studying during my school days were done here rather than being locked in four walls of a room.. It was "The Place" during my school days and I did much of my soul searching here.
7.Listening to Gita in the afternoons.. in my college, surrounded by trees, experiencing fresh air,and gathering enriching knowledge for the soul.
8.Fighting for really crappy things with my sis only to laugh heavily at the end..
9.Taking a longgg walk all alone by my college. admiring the vast expanse of green fields, shady trees... and admiring "Nature at its Best"... I am really going to miss these in a few months from now..
10.Observing small kids, playing wid them.. and bringing out the child in me.. :)
11.Browsing the internet and aquiring knowledge... only to find that.. there is soo much to be learnt in this shorrrt lifee..
12.Visiting our family frends' or neighbours.. and sharing life's experiences..

I could go on and on.... There are soo many simple things in life from which we can derive happiness.. So lets do a little soul searching and take time to thank God for these small things that give us happiness and make our life worth living..

The inspiring rags to riches story..

I just happened to read about the life of an amazing guy from slums who got into IIM-Ahmedabad.Upon finishing his graduation he declined all the job offers that he got in order to start his own Catering Business.I am just pondering.. We see so many people in life(including me) who have got all aminities for comfort and all the oppurtunity in the world for great education.. Still we are not able to utilize it to the fullest. Here is a guy who has created oppurtunites for himself and in turn wants to create oppurtunities for the society.. If India produces more Sarathbabus, surely the number people living below the poverty line would come down to a significant extent. Its very rare that you come across such people in a highly selfish society.Truly inspiring.

Semester Exams

Its the time of the year.. perhaps the only second time of the year to get tucked into your college books. We had our first exam today and it went off okay.I have more 5 papers to go and 2 more labs.So time to get into books and restrict myself getting lost in this maze called "internet".

So hope to savour every moment of my life.. in 8th semester.. be it good or bad.. I guess there wud much more stuff happening by next Diwali 2007!.. An afternoon at IIT,Chennai campus

Today was an alumni meet of IITians from all 7 IITs along with their families at IIT,Chennai and since my dad is an alumni of IIT-Kharagpur.. I thought I would spend my Saturday evening there. So, the meet was scheduled around 3 p.m. The alumni meet mainly involved the discussion of two main topics namely contribution of IIT to the society and Motivation of IIT grads to takeup Entrepreneurship. It was an interesting meeting with the presence of several well known names including Prof Ananth,Director of IIT Madras .While discussions were going on in one side.. there was a carnival going at the other end with some fun stalls. There was a stall on Mehendi(so my Diwali Mehendi is finished here) and an interesting stall on having your name written in rice and made into a key chain(unfortunately due to lack of time could not get hold of this). Once the discussions were over there were a variety of cultural events by IIT students including a wonderful classical flute performance followed by a dance by the girls team and ear-blocking metal songs by the IIT Rock band.Next came dinner, which was good and filling. The people who attended the meet were mainly those who had graduated from the instituition some 30-40 years back and here and there I could see some recent pass outs.Somehow when I went into the campus, I got a motivation that if I am gonna b doing my post graduation it would only be in this prestigious institute and follow the footsteps of my father.

Moments to Cherish

I am blogging after really a longg time. The 7th semester has been one of the busiest semesters for me.And I am really happy at the results I have got at the end after 3 months of unassured phase. Two major things happened in this semester. The first being my dual placement at Honeywell Technology Solutions Lab.I received my second on campus offer letter just a day before my birthday :). The second being my visit to Microsoft IDC,Hyderabad. The .NET usergroup which we are running Maduraidotnet won the "Best New .NET Usergroup Award" at the Microsoft National Student Partners Meet at Hyderabad. The award has really lifted our spirits and finally our hardwork has paid off.So my motto "Keep working hard.. Rest would follow".

Industrial Visit

We went on an industrial visit to Trivandrum on the 13th and 14th of last month.13th fell on a Sunday. On the day before the IV I had high fever and was totally down.I was praying I would become fit enough to go for IV.From Saturday night to Sunday night I did nothing other than sleeping.I was not totally fit but still I thought I could cope up.On the morning of the first day I felt much better and enjoyed the whole day.We stayed at a lodge called Raj Mahal and all our class girls stayed in the top floor and had a good time.It was very close to the Anatha Padmanabaswamy temple.Trivandrum is a beautiful place with greenery all around.I had been here before but that was way back during my 7th standard hols. The people out here are very religious too.A person at the lodge told us that people here start their day with a visit to the temple at 4:30 in the morning and that is the most crowded period. That really was unbelievable. The next morning my friends were getting ready to visit the temple.I really wanted to visit the temple. But as luck would have it again I fell ill. Then we visited the company at Technopark and thats a cool place... people out there seem to be a bit modern. Our IV ended well.. but I could not enjoy the second day much.Dunno why I had to fall ill during the wrong time that too during what could be our last IV.

Reunion with friends

I finally met my frenz whom I had not met for a long time and it was an amazing reunion. We started off with a visit to the Cafe Coffee day at Ispahani center and lunch at Punjabi Dhaba.Of course, these are typical places where we can meet and talk for a long time.
Once that was done,we headed off to our frenz's house at Tambaram who could not make it as he was ill.Spent most of our time chit-chatting and recalling fond memories.. We lost track of time chatting and finally time came for us to leave.
We dropped our friend at her hostel in Porur. It had become very late by then so had to cut the beach plan.Tomorrow I have to apply for passport and once I get done with that.. I would be leaving for Madurai in the night.Today might have been very short but memories of it will always linger in my mind.

Awaiting to go home...

I had no plans of going home this semester until my study leave. However plans changed when I received a call from my close friend and said that it would be great to have a reunion of our gang.We were frenz who met during our Maths tuition in 10th standard.I remember the wonderful time that all of us had together.. especially in the summer leave.. spending time in the beach during evenings, movies and other stuff. But until now..I am totally out of touch with a few people in the gang and I will b meeting them after some 5 years. I am really excited!! Cant just wait to get back home..

A day after the Republic day

Yesterday was the Republic day.I was really hoping to watch the Republic Day Parade in the college. But I slept and by the time I woke up.. it was around 8:30 in the morning while the parades would have commenced an hour earlier.I felt very bad that my habit of oversleeping is having its side effects robbing me of all that I want to do.This is not the first case where I have lost something due to my sleep.Of late,I am losing out a lot.I know I have to get over this habit very soon if I have to do something useful in life.

I have a few department contests coming up.. and other stuff as well. This semester is tight but I love it.I dont think I will find time to go home.... but I guess I have got used to sitting in the hostel for 4 months at a stretch thriving on this food. This hostel life has been really good in one way teaching me a lot of independence and adaptability something which I lacked before I came here.I guess thats all for now..
